ARTIST STATEMENT
When I begin a painting, the subject often takes a backseat to the colors and light in nature that have stirred my emotions. There is always a detectable reality in my work but more often, there are elements of expressionism and abstraction. It is as if I have discovered a jewel when I observe a piece of nature’s beauty, My paintings are inspired by my relationship with nature. While I paint with intention, I try to keep purpose to a minimum so that my work is an expression of how I feel, not what I am thinking. I don’t consider my work complete until the colors I see inside and outside of my head unfurl the jewel and take my breath away. For me, seeing is what painting is all about. Sharing that joy with others is essential.
